Through
the looking glass…
The
time has come, the committee said,
To talk of many things
Of boats & games & market treats
Of the Queen of Hearts & Kings
And why the foreshore is having lights
And whether the mock-turtle sings
And if the jabberwocky plays
With pizzas thrown like rings
And when the festival is on….
26th – 28th March- with many, many things!

January
2010 saw the 28th Cygnet Folk Festival being one of the best ever
- over 8000 people attended and enjoyed a huge selection of activities,
hosted by the Town of Cygnet.
The
first week in March sees a repeat of the “Taste of the Huon”
festival which is held annually in Ranelagh and provides a smorgasbord
of food, drink and entertainment.
March
2010 also offers a festival focus for Franklin. To be held on the
last weekend in March, 26th to the 28th, this festival is not to be
missed as it offers something for everyone.
Friday
26th March opens the weekend’s activities with a Ball. Saturday
continues with an art exhibition by local artists and eight different
venues offer food, drink and music – German, Italian, French,
American, Scottish, English, Australian and Asian, along with wine
tasting from local vineyards. The day concludes with a water and light
show, showcasing the natural beauty of the Huon River.
The
festival winds up on Sunday with music throughout the town, featuring
a stage and dancing area on the village green, games (modified Scottish
Highland), market stalls (indoor and outdoor), boating activities,
martial arts displays and children’s events.
An
added bonus is that the neighbouring town of Geeveston has a concurrent
“Forest Festival.” People travelling from Hobart and further
afield will have a lot more to see and do.
Mark
it down in the “Things to do in 2010” and visit Southern
Tasmania 26th to 28th March, only half an hour’s drive from
Hobart on the A6 (Huon Highway.) Perhaps also sample some of the wide
range of accommodation places available, and enjoy a taste of what
is on offer.
